Ab Circle!

I was innocently watching the television with my roommates when we stumbled onto the amazing infomercial for The Ab Circle. I made them turn back so we could learn all about it. My brother is usually the one purchasing random workout equipment from the television, but this one I REALLY want. Has anyone used it? My roommates don't believe it would work. Can anyone verify that they lost 12-80 lbs using this item? You've got nothing to loose but inches.

"I remembered being so shocked that someone could be so selfish and irresponsible and kill my husband," she says.

NPR did a story today about texting while driving. Read it! Everyone thinks they can text while driving but it is more dangerous than drunk driving. Utah has the toughest law in the nation on texting while driving:

"If you are just caught texting while driving, it can be up to three months in jail and a $750 fine," says Brent Wilhite, program director for Zero Fatalities, the state's public campaign against distracted driving.

"And if you kill someone, it's up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine," he says.
...

University of Utah psychologist David Strayer tracks eye movements while people text and try to drive. He says people really do take their eyes off the road — often for the same amount of time it takes to drive the length of a football field. Imagine doing that blind. And the cognitive distraction is part of what makes it so dangerous.

"In terms of accident risk, you're more likely to be hit by someone who's text messaging than someone who's drunk," Strayer says. "And that's a pretty alarming statistic."

In fact, his research shows that texting results in impairment levels double that of drunken driving.

Have some self respect! Don't you know you can fly?

I've had my eye on this for a while. It might be moving up my list of "wants" to "needs." It is one of those things I wish I had made.

Happy Birthday Cassie

Today is my roommate Cassie's birthday. Yesterday she had a fun Glow in the Dark party which was a great success. Last month we were looking at the Cake Wrecks blog at some really ugly cupcake cakes and I was so inspired I promised her a cupcake cake for her birthday. I made a firefly, which fit the theme as best as it could.

72 cupcakes and 3.5 batches of frosting on this one:

D.I. nativity

These light up nativity figures were at the D.I. It was kind of sad to see them among the vacuums with a vacuum bag on Joseph's head. I suppose I should have rescued them. They would make awesome lamps in my front room. My roommates would love that.

9:17 Happy Birthday Jeannette!

When I went to my 5 year high school reunion, the question everyone asked me first was, "Where's Jeannette?" to which I answered that she couldn't come, she was somewhere with her husband and two kids (three kids now). But in high school we really were together ALL the time did some crazy fun things. I was really really lucky to have the greatest friends while I was in high school.

Now, I'm no scrapbooker, but one time when I had a broken back and nothing to do I decided to make a little album of pictures solely of Jeannette and myself in high school. I am posting some of it now because 1) I think it is hilarious. We wore the same clothes. We had the same haircut. We had identical handwriting (I will include a note I found in my violin case that we wrote in Economics which, interestingly enough, is partially about how our handwriting is identical, partially about my little cousin saying "flush the man down!" when he was flushing his toilet paper). I honestly don't remember ever thinking, I'm going to buy the same shoes as Jeannette so I can be like her, it was just that we liked the exact same things so if she wanted to buy the same swim suit I already had, who cares? (I do remember copying her ampersands though. That is the one thing I purposly stole. I've always loved ampersands it seems. My handwriting is different now, I must have been subconciously copying her) 2) because it is Jeannette's birthday today! Happy Birthday Jeannette! I will never be able to look at a digital clock that says 9:17 without thinking of her birthday because she used to point it out ALL THE TIME.

So here are some most excellent pages of pictures. The first one does include our great friend Lisa (Mitchell) McNiven as a little shout out to her birthday which was on the 13th. Happy Birthday to Lisa!

My roommate is having her birthday party here next Saturday the 19th around 7:30, so if you are in the area, you should come. It is a glow in the dark party.

holly is here!

For the past few months I've resolved myself to things that weren't perfect by saying, "It's ok, Holly will be here in a few weeks." And now Holly is here. Hooray! We slept outside on the futon in our back yard her first night here (she doesn't have a bed yet). I've been wanting to sleep out there every night, but it is kind of weird to do by yourself. She came to institute with me...she shares food with me...I'm glad she lives here now.
