Viva La Vida

For a couple of weeks my brother has been saying things like, "why do I like that new Coldplay song so much?!" and telling me how good it was. I started listening to it (over and over, I'm TERRIBLE at being a repeat offender) and decided I liked it to. I haven't been into Coldplay much but I started thinking it might be fun to hear them sing the new song live. The SAME DAY I thought that, I heard Jules in the photo department asking people if they wanted to see Coldplay on the Today Show. No one would go with her, but I said I wanted to. She decided she didn't actually want to go because she thought it was going to rain. I was debating whether or not I wanted to go by myself when my roommate told me she knew Aja was going. So I called Aja who said she was going to be there at 5 a.m. I was not that dedicated to Coldplay. I had been planning to get there at 7. But I decided to go half way at 6 so I could hopefully meet up with Aja. By the time I got to Rockefeller center and figured out where the line was to get into the main concert area, Aja had already gotten in. I randomly stood in the back and ended up being crowed up against a van. During the two and a half hours I was standing there with sweat dripping down my back and really annoying people talking super loud around me, I was thinking of all the really bitter things I was going to write on my blog about how it wasn't worth it to stand out and wait for Today Show, even if it was free. But when Coldplay started playing they were so great and I love live music SO MUCH that I forgot all about it (mostly...) I was able to stand up on the back of a van so I could see pretty well. Coldplay was really awesome. The music was fun, I could hear really well, but what I liked most was how considerate they were. They knew everyone was there just to hear them, so during sound check they played full songs and were talking to the crowd. During one song Chris Martin ran to the back of the crowd and said, "thank you so much for standing way back here, we appreciate it!" And of course, everyone in the back thought that was great. In summary, I'm not sure I'm going to be running back to the Today show, but I did buy the Coldplay album and I have been enjoying it. Coldplay MADE me love them just by being nice. Oh, and I'm 2 for 2 at being on the Today Show. I know for sure I was on TV during at least one song (I haven't rewatched it all). I was easy to spot since I was on a van:

We really like Coldplay! Actually that morning we were watching them on the Today show. I didn't see you but I wasn't looking either. I'm glad that you like them!

Viva la Vida is my new favorite song. Chris Martin is great but a little 'bouncey' when he performs. Sounds like it was worth the sweaty back, loud people, and guys with signs.

Ha Ha! You were on TV. There you are right there in the crowd. And you even have a sign! You are amazing!

No Jens, that was not MY sign. It was the guy in front of me who had a sign. The first time he held it up was right in my face and I thought the camera had caught me telling him to put it down so we could see, but fortunately it missed that part of the show. It would have been great if the part of me on tv was me regulating the guy with the sign. If I could, I would also not let anyone hold their digital cameras up for the entire show. They can not be getting ANY good footage from where they are and the quality of their camera. All they are doing is blocking the view of the people behind them.

I'm glad you are in a place that allows you to check out my newest obsession. As a matter of fact I believe being in new york has given you a million opportunities to see excellent music that I would sacrifice a appendage for. This more than makes up for me going to Radiohead the week after you went into the MTC. Thanks for the awesome birthday present by the way...
