I am doing it.

Today I bought this:

as my commitment that I am really going to run the Teton Dam Marathon in Rexburg on June 12, 2010. My ipod is too old to support the Nike+ that goes with the ipod so I got this band. I'm pretty excited about it. And I'm excited for the marathon. I've never wanted to run one before, but I think that because this one is in my hometown I feel like I need to do it. I didn't realized until tonight that the run is supposed to be a symbol of overcoming personal challenges such as when the Teton Dam broke:

"On June 5, 1976, the collapse of the Teton River Dam unleashed a savage flood which caused $500 million in damage, took eleven lives, and made thousands homeless in Wilford, Sugar City, Rexburg, Salem, Hibbard, Firth, Blackfoot, and Roberts.

This tragedy was turned into triumph by the victims’ own faith and courage and by an outpouring of aid by many volunteers from Idaho and nearby states. For this reason over a thousand runners flood the streets to take on their own personal challenge of running a race. "

My family does have a few interesting stories about when the dam broke.

If anyone else is running it and wants to sit by me at the Potato Bake, I accept!

Good luck! My dream is for a half marathon, but maybe next year.

Also, did you know I was visiting my cousins in Rexburg the day the dam broke?

Wow! Good luck. Last year I was running a lot and one day I wanted to see how far I could go. I went just shy of 14 miles.....which is a tid bit more than a half marathon, so I was proud!! I would love to do it with you another year!! I will just barely have had our baby in June.....
